Things We Learned From Stan (from his daughter Cathy)

Life isn't supposed to be easy, but it can be fun.
Appreciate the sweet things- flowers, falling leaves, snow, kids, and pets.
Eat a balanced diet, work out regularly, keep your weight down, and eat candy whenever you want.
Be a participant. Dance, sing, ski, bike, canoe, raft, and play.
Don't smoke. Or stop now.
Losing your vision, your hearing, and your teeth is no reason to stop having fun. Adapt and don't let anyone know.
If everything goes wrong, throw a party.
If someone tells you there is a chance for you to live one more day, take it.
If you have a problem, make a critical path to solves it. Don't complain, fix it.
If you don't like your company, quit and start your own. Don't let the turkeys get you down.
Work hard and invest your money and don't buy more than you need. Own only enough stuff to throw in the back seat of your car- plus a million dollars.
Appreciate the talents of other people- especially the things you can't do.
Embrace change. Cell phones and e-mail are just new ways to talk to friends.
Love your family and your friends. And your dog- who loves you no matter what.

Stan didn't want to go, but he doesn't want everybody to get all morose. Just look at a good picture of him and have a party. And remember him.

I have adapted one of dad's favorite quotes to suit him:
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, bourbon and coke in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: Woo-hoo, what a ride!"
